Everything Beneath the Horizon

"The days when atlases were books must have been beautiful."

Vilém Flusser (2012)

Everything Beneath the Horizon (2026) explores the boundaries of Arévalo to investigate how we represent a territory and what lies beyond a map. Inspired by the essay "My Atlas" by Vilém Flusser, the project reflects on how the visible and audible worlds are revealed and understood through movement, and suggests that all cartography begins with the body.

Through walks in the surrounding area, the artist documented her experience of the landscape using drawings, photographs, videos and sound recordings, thereby creating an archive of her journey. The Arévalo plain and its horizon, which allows us to see great distances, yet which we never quite reach, have been central elements of this work, alongside her interest in cartography and how this technology shapes our perception of territory. Taken together, the works create a small window onto the sensory and perceptible experiences of the Arévalo landscape that surrounds the artist.
